Individuals with good processing efficiency process information quickly and accurately, and complete routine tasks quickly and correctly. Their work style is efficient and appropriate.
Instructions
Each module starts with an instruction and a few test runs. The test is completed in a time-limited manner, whereby the time restriction is item (task) based and not test based. The items - cities and country names (verbal module) or arithmetic tasks (numerical) – always appear at the top of the image, fall down after a few seconds and disappear from the screen. During this time, the item must be classified according to the instruction; the result of the calculation task must be categorised as negative, neutral or positive, for example.
As soon as an answer has been given or the maximum processing time has elapsed, the next item is automatically presented - until the number of items specified for the module have been presented. The items, which are presented in random order, can be worked on completely and correctly with careful and efficient work, without the time available per item having to elapse.
RAPID consists of 2 separate modules (verbal, numerical), which can be used individually or in combination, depending on the requirements specification. The results can be reported individually or as a total value across both modules.
Theoretical background
Processing efficiency or processing speed is an established structure of intelligence diagnostics, which can be found in almost all intelligence models. Based on Berlin's intelligence structure model, RAPID is available with verbal and numerical content.
Processing efficiency plays an important role in almost every work requirement. Faster processing not only brings efficiency advantages in the processing of routine tasks, but is also regarded as a central prerequisite in cognition psychology in order to master complex tasks. Consequently, people with high values achieve a higher maximum work speed and are often able to better grasp complex tasks. They are often characterised by a high level of reliability and endurance when solving simple, less varied tasks, the processing of which requires as structured a procedure as possible.
As this capability is required in practically all activities, RAPID is a test that can be widely applied. Nevertheless, in the case of demanding activities, it is recommended to use complementary performance tests, which additionally record the processing capacity of participants.
